School District Construction May Go Green

The Oregon Legislative Assembly has started introducing concepts for the legislative session.

Consistent with Oregon’s strong commitment to environmentally responsible and sustainable construction, a new bill has been introduced requiring:

school district construction (new or remodel) to achieve at least a “LEED Silver” Rating.

This new requirement would apply to construction using proceeds from bonds typically issued for school district construction.

Hard to imagine there will be any objection to the bill, although competitors of the US Green Building Council may not be pleased with what could be viewed as an endorsement of the LEED system specifically….
